Technical Achievement Award

Basis For Judging

The award will recognize members of the Communication Theory Technical Committee (CTTC) of the IEEE Communications Society who have been involved with CTTC, have done outstanding work in communication theory, and have achieved a high degree of visibility in the field.

2024 Recipient: Sennur Ulukus for contributions to the communication theoretic foundations of physical layer security, information freshness and energy harvesting.

Outstanding Service Award

Basis For Judging

The award will recognize members of the Communication Theory Technical Committee (CTTC) of the IEEE Communications Society who have a distinguished record of service to the CTTC community, including CTTC symposia and workshop organization, leadership roles within the CTTC, and promoting CTTC activities and interests in the broader research community.

2024 Recipient: Jeffrey G. Andrews for leadership and sustained service to CTTC, CTW, IEEE journals and conferences of interest to CTTC members.

Early Achievement Award

Basis For Judging

The CTTC Early Achievement Award will recognize members of the CTTC who have achieved early career visibility in the field through research and service and who (i) have participated in the CTTC (e.g., attended CTTC meetings, attended CTW, served CTTC in a significant capacity, been member of the TPC for ICC/GLOBECOM) and (ii) are within 10 years of their Ph.D.

2024 Recipient: Cunhua Pan for fundamental contributions to reconfigurable intelligent surfaces and wireless power transfer.

Andrea Goldsmith Young Scholars Award

Basis For Judging

The CTTC Andrea Goldsmith Young Scholars Award will recognize young scholars of the communication theory area who are (i) actively enrolled PhD students or (ii) within 2 years of their PhD completion at time of nomination deadline. Eligible nominees must be ComSoc members.
Successful nominees must show a high level of research aptitude in the broadly defined topic of communication theory, as well as engagement in the professional community. Judging criteria will include research independence, creativity, productivity, potential for impact, leadership and mentoring activities, and community engagement ideally including at least some participation within the CTTC and its meetings, symposia, and workshops.

2024 Recipient: Baturalp Buyukates for contributions to age of information, low-latency communications, distributed computation and learning.
